The Carnation Breakfast Essentials products, a staple in families’ pantries for over 55 years, have undergone a remarkable transformation. With an outdated packaging system, the brand needed a refreshing update for its Original Nutritional Drinks and Powder Drink Mixes. The new look modernizes the brand through a more vertically-inspired design approach, while the majority of the color palette remains intact; updated graphics and type treatments provide a contemporary feel, ensuring the brand remains instantly recognizable.
Custom Nutritional Packaging
The Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Original Nutritional Drinks and Powder Drink Mixes have been reformulated to contain 25% less added sugars compared to previous versions, all while maintaining a kid-approved taste. The ready-to-drink format now comes in Tetra-Pak® cartons, which are recyclable with the cap on. These cartons are predominantly made from paper, a renewable resource sourced from responsibly managed forests that align with the environmental and social standards set by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This shift helps the brand eliminate over 3.8 million pounds of plastic annually. As part of this mission, Chase Design Group played an essential role in overhauling the packaging to be distinctive and uplifting.

During this creative process, an updated yellow background and a new sunray pattern were introduced, bringing the glass imagery to life as a hero for breakfast. The architecture of the horizon design and a bold nutritional bubble effectively communicate the nutritional advantages of the products.
Premium Nutritional Packaging
The newly designed logo replaces the former script with a sleek, vintage aesthetic, subtly integrating cues of wholesome dairy to partner with the iconic glass and form a memorable symbol. These advancements extend beyond physical packaging, evolving into the core of the brand’s visual identity that unifies the product across various eCommerce and communication platforms, including TV ads, digital media, and social channels.
Today, Carnation Breakfast Essentials® are available in four beloved flavors: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and Cookies n’ Crème (the latter only in ready-to-drink form).
